Planning permission was granted by Hart District Council on the 19th of January to convert the disused public toilets into two retail units. The alterations will be largely internal with some changes to the windows and the demolition of the privacy wall.
Hook Barbers and Kingfisher Dry Cleaning will relocate from their current location on Station Road to the public toilets. The dry cleaners will be accessible from the ‘Gents’ entrance fronting London Road and the Barbers from the ‘ladies’ entrance. They will share a single back office and staff toilet.
The public toilets have been closed for a number of years and form part of the Crossways Manor car park site owned by Hart District Council.
It is uncertain what will happen to the Hook Barbers and Kingfisher Dry Cleaners current site in Station Road. Planning permission was granted in 2014 for the demolition of the units and the building of replacement units for the two shops.
Another planning permission was granted in 2013 for the building of three retail units and apartments but the three-year time limit in which building work must commence has expired and a new planning application would need submitting.
