Hook’s unofficial taxi rank on land belonging to South West Trains outside of Hook Station is threatened with closure.
This follows complaints to the rail operator by nearby residents about Taxi Drivers allegedly urinating in public against a nearby hedge.
The rail operator was unaware a taxi rank was in operation on their land. If this were to continue they would be in danger of enforcement action for unauthorised use of the land and would certainly need to apply for planning permission from Hart District Council for a change of use.
A hastily erected cardboard sign outside the Station’s north entrance reads.
"South West Trains Are Going to Ban Taxi's From Hook Station"
"Sign Petition to Try and Stop this"
"Taxi services are going to be effectively cut at Hook Stn due to the following”
“South West Trains are not going to allow taxi's to wait at the station for passengers to just get a cab.”
“They want pre-booked Taxi's only and therefore all other Taxi's can be fined for waiting on their land.”
“Not only this, they will allow one company, who have a licence on there property to have two parking spaces providing they pay additionally for a licence at present for a undisclosed fee.”
“We don't want a monopoly”
“The Police are being told to enforce this with South West Trains Staff."
"Please sign this petition"
"We have no official taxi ranks in Hook"
A petition against the closure is available to sign at the Village Newsagents. Village firm ‘Capital Cars’ rent a unit at the Station from the rail operator.
